JTET Eligibility Criteria 2026

JTET eligibility criteria consist of two main parts: Age Limit and Educational Qualification. Candidates must fulfil both requirements to be eligible for the exam. In addition, applicants should also meet basic conditions related to nationality and category-wise relaxations before applying.

Age criteria

The age criteria for JTET exam are defined as per government norms. Candidates must meet the minimum age requirement, while the upper age limit includes relaxations for specific categories.

Educational Qualification

JTET educational qualifications vary for Paper 1 (Primary Level) and Paper 2 (Upper Primary Level). Candidates must meet at least one of the prescribed qualifications.

JTET Paper 2 Educational Qualification (Upper Primary: Classes 6–8)

Candidates applying for JTET Paper 2 must have any one of the following educational qualifications:

Graduation with D.El.Ed
Graduation with at least 50% marks and B.Ed (as per NCTE norms after 29.07.2011)
Graduation with at least 45% marks and B.Ed (as per NCTE regulations)
Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.El.Ed
Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed
Graduation with at least 50% marks and B.Ed (Special Education)
Post Graduation with at least 55% marks and 3-year integrated B.Ed-M.Ed

JTET Paper 1 Educational Qualification (Primary: Classes 1–5)

Candidates applying for JTET Paper 1 must have any one of the following educational qualifications:

Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and 2-year D.El.Ed (after 09.12.2007, NCTE norms)
Senior Secondary with at least 45% marks and 2-year D.El.Ed (before 09.12.2007, NCTE 2002 norms)
Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.El.Ed
Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and Diploma in Special Education
Graduation with Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed)

Note: Final-year candidates in qualifying courses are also eligible to apply, subject to document verification.
